Editorial Policy
The Audeamus Editorial Board strives to maintain the integrity of an author’s work. However, it may be necessary to suggest minor changes to written works in the course of the editorial process. Whenever possible, these changes will be made in consultation with the author(s). Additionally, it is sometimes the decision of the board that a work could be published with more significant changes. In such cases, the editorial board will consult with the author to discuss our concerns and suggest a rework of the submission.
Our mission in evaluating and reviewing submissions to the Journal is to create a balanced work that reflects the diversity of this university system’s honors students. To achieve this, each submission is reviewed individually and holistically by multiple members of the board. Some works are also subjected to fact checking when applicable. In many cases, submissions are also referred to UC faculty for expert opinions. The final choice in publishing submissions is based on available space in the Journal and the overall quality of a submission compared to others received.
The Editorial Board
The Audeamus Editorial Board is composed of Honors students from UC Riverside. These students volunteer their time to review the work of their peers and work towards promoting and publishing the absolute best work produced by students in the University of California system. Other than occasional faculty review, all evaluation, design, and layout of the Journal is carried out by the student Editorial Board, with general guidance from the staff of the University Honors Program at UC Riverside.
The board accepts applications annually in the spring quarter for current honors UC students. Additionally, incoming UC Riverside freshman are introduced to the Journal at their summer orientation program, and given the opportunity to work on the Board. The Board is currently composed of UC Riverside University Honors Program students, but any students at other campuses (or other honors societies) are free to contact the Board if they are interested in working with the Journal.
Editorial Board positions include:
- Editor-in-chief, assistant editor-in-chief, editors
- Reader evaluates new submissions
- Researcher evaluates facts, data, claims, and references provided in submissions
- Layout editor designs and creates the Journal’s appearance and presentation
- Circulation and Outreach advertises Journal, establishes contact with UCs and garners funds
- Tech support-runs and upkeeps the Audeamus website and database
For Good Measure

Yes, we have a mascot. What respectable publication doesn’t? His name is Mister Bumbledeer. He is a well-dressed, mild-mannered, mustachioed, fancy man in a monocle. Any and all fan letters may be forwarded to Mister Bumbledeer by contacting the Editorial Board.
To clarify, Audeamus is Latin for “let us dare”.
We hope you enjoy and understand our brand of humor.
